3 Min Read

The UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), in partnership with sustainability pioneer BEEAH Group, has officially unveiled Tahweel, the country’s first fully integrated national digital marketplace for recyclable materials. The launch, which took place at BEEAH’s headquarters in Sharjah, marks a significant step in the nation’s efforts to advance its circular economy.

A Transparent And Efficient Digital Trading Hub

Powered by BEEAH’s digital venture, re.life, Tahweel provides a centralized platform for businesses with trade licenses to directly buy and sell a wide range of recyclable materials. The marketplace covers commodities such as metals, plastics, paper, wood, e-waste, glass, and rubber. By eliminating intermediaries, the platform ensures fair market pricing, transparency, and efficiency through features like timed auctions, partial auctions, and instant trades. This streamlined process also aligns with the UAE government’s Zero Bureaucracy initiative.

Driving The UAE’s Circular Economy Agenda

The Tahweel initiative is a key component of the government’s 2024–2025 strategy to strengthen the circular economy, reduce reliance on landfills, and promote sustainable growth under the “We the UAE 2031” vision. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated that the platform reflects the leadership’s commitment to transforming environmental challenges into economic opportunities and turning waste management into an engine for innovation.

Powered By re.life And Set For National Adoption

The technology behind Tahweel is re.life’s digital trading platform, a venture that has already seen rapid growth both locally and internationally. Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of BEEAH, described the launch as a “significant leap toward a circular economy.” Looking ahead, MOCCAE and BEEAH plan to collaborate with local waste management authorities to drive the platform’s adoption through targeted awareness campaigns and training, aiming to establish Tahweel as a cornerstone of the UAE’s sustainable development framework.
