The UAE plans to invest up to $54.5 billion in clean energy projects through 2030 as it works to meet rising electricity demand and expand renewable power capacity.

The announcement comes as the country’s renewable energy capacity has grown from 129 megawatts in 2015 to more than 8.2 gigawatts in 2025, according to Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei. That represents an increase of more than 63 times over the decade.

Clean energy accounted for 32.4% of the UAE’s electricity generation in 2025. The country is targeting a 35% share by 2031.

Al Mazrouei said the planned investment would support new projects, attract greater private-sector participation and strengthen partnerships across the energy industry. The strategy also combines expanded generation capacity with energy-efficiency improvements.

The UAE’s energy mix includes renewable and nuclear power. The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant has a generation capacity of 5.6GW and supplies 25% of the country’s electricity needs, according to the minister.

The country has also increased the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s targeted generation capacity for 2030 by 60%. Meanwhile, Masdar’s clean energy portfolio exceeds 65GW, with the company targeting 100GW by 2030.
