OpenAI is developing an AI-powered hiring platform called the OpenAI Jobs Platform, a new service that will put the company in close competition with LinkedIn. The company expects to launch the service by mid-2026 and will also begin offering certifications for people with different levels of “AI fluency”.
By the Numbers
The new initiatives represent a major expansion for OpenAI beyond its core products:
- Mid-2026: The expected launch date for the OpenAI Jobs Platform.
- Late 2025: The planned pilot launch for OpenAI Certifications.
- 10 Million: The number of Americans OpenAI aims to certify in “AI fluency” by 2030, in partnership with Walmart.
A New Competitor in the Hiring Space
The new platform will be overseen by OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, Fidji Simo, who stated that the company will “use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer”. The service will also offer a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments to access top AI talent. This move puts OpenAI in direct competition with LinkedIn, which was co-founded by one of OpenAI’s earliest investors, Reid Hoffman.
OpenAI Certifications to Boost AI Fluency
In a related move, OpenAI will begin offering certifications for AI skills through its OpenAI Academy. The company is working with Walmart, one of the world’s largest private employers, on its certification program and aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030. In her announcement, Simo acknowledged the risk of AI disrupting traditional jobs, and stated that OpenAI can do its part by helping people become fluent in AI and connecting them with companies that need their skills.
Looking Ahead
These new programs are part of OpenAI’s commitment to the White House’s initiative to expand AI literacy. For the MENA region, where governments and companies are rapidly adopting AI, a platform that certifies AI skills and connects talent with opportunities could be a powerful tool for developing the local workforce.
