Egypt’s National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has launched a new nationwide initiative, the “Green Entrepreneurship” project, in partnership with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency. Operating under the slogan “Your Beginning is from the Environment,” the project aims to train and empower persons with disabilities to launch sustainable businesses by recycling environmental waste.
Fostering Eco-Friendly Business Ideas
The program goes beyond theoretical knowledge by providing practical training and a “Green Ideas Lab” for hands-on application. Participants are introduced to a range of innovative business concepts, including turning used cooking oil into soap, creating art from recycled plastics, using banana peels to produce fiber, and transforming household waste into organic fertilizers. The training also covers specialized topics like rooftop gardening and using the Azolla plant as a sustainable and economical animal feed, equipping attendees with tangible skills to start their own ventures.
Nationwide Rollout Begins in Upper Egypt
The initiative is being implemented across numerous Egyptian governorates, with the inaugural event taking place this week in Sohag, Upper Egypt. The two-day workshop, held on September 17th and 18th, hosted over 25 young participants with disabilities from the local community. The training was delivered by leaders and instructors from the Sohag branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency, marking the official start of the project’s nationwide activities.
A Strategic Alignment with National Goals
Dr. Iman Karim, the General Supervisor of the NCPD, emphasized that the project is a key component of Egypt’s national strategy to combat climate change and aligns with the sustainable development goals outlined in Egypt’s Vision 2030. The initiative not only provides creative employment opportunities but also promotes economic independence for persons with disabilities, fulfilling the Council’s legal mandate for training and awareness while supporting national human rights and development strategies.
About The Green Entrepreneurship Project
The Green Entrepreneurship project is a collaborative Egyptian initiative designed to equip persons with disabilities with the necessary skills to enter the green economy. By focusing on the principles of recycling and sustainability, the program aims to foster a new generation of entrepreneurs who can build profitable businesses that contribute positively to the environment and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
