EAD Launches AI-Powered Environmental Data Platform in Abu Dhabi

3 Min Read

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced the launch of its Environmental Data Platform (EDP) during GITEX 2025, introducing a transformative tool for environmental intelligence in the region. The platform is the first of its kind to integrate such a wide variety of environmental data, aiming to bolster sustainable development and evidence-based policymaking in the emirate.

A Centralised Hub for Decades of Data

At its core, the EDP serves as a unified repository, bringing together nearly three decades of meticulously collected environmental datasets. It provides a single source of truth for a broad spectrum of parameters, including air and marine water quality, soil composition, biodiversity records, and waste management information, offering a comprehensive view of Abu Dhabi’s environmental landscape.

Shifting to a Proactive Environmental Strategy

By leveraging state-of-the-art AI and machine-learning algorithms, the platform transforms this wealth of historical data into actionable intelligence. This enables predictive modelling, the creation of early warning systems, and advanced scenario analysis. Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of EAD, noted that this marks a crucial shift from reactive responses to a proactive approach, allowing for more efficient resource allocation and enhanced protection of Abu Dhabi’s natural assets with unprecedented precision.

Fostering a Collaborative, Data-Driven Ecosystem

The EDP is designed for broad accessibility through an interactive gateway with user-friendly dashboards and visualisations, making complex data available to consultants, academics, policymakers, and the public. To ensure a holistic approach, the platform is fully interoperable with key Abu Dhabi government bodies, including the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD). It also streamlines the environmental permitting process by providing validated baseline information. With a scalable and modular design, Phase Two is planned for 2026 to add new modules for groundwater, soil, and biodiversity monitoring.
