ADCB Egypt, in partnership with Nile University’s NilePreneurs initiative, has officially launched the third cohort of its specialized environmental business accelerator, the “ClimaTech Accelerator 2025.” The program aims to support startups and SMEs in Egypt by focusing on advancing the circular economy for plastics within the local market. Applications are now open following a launch event attended by key figures from the bank and its partners.
A Strategic Push For A Circular Economy
The six-month program is designed to accelerate the growth of 10 startups in their expansion phase, providing them with interactive content and expert mentorship to refine their business models, governance, and marketing strategies. This year’s cohort places a strong emphasis on fostering a circular economy, targeting innovations in several key areas.
These include biodegradable biomaterials, advanced recycling methods, sustainable packaging solutions, and construction technologies that repurpose plastic waste. The accelerator will also support digital solutions designed to track, manage, and optimize plastic waste streams, reinforcing the transition towards a more sustainable industrial landscape.
Fostering Innovation Through Collaboration
The launch event highlighted the program’s strategic importance, drawing participation from representatives of the Central Bank of Egypt, the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). As part of the launch, Nile University hosted a seminar titled “Scaling Climate Tech Startups to Address Plastic Waste Challenges in Egypt,” aimed at raising awareness about the accelerator and the critical need for sustainable business models.
The collaboration between ADCB Egypt, Nile University, and NilePreneurs exemplifies a powerful partnership model, bridging the gap between the financial sector, academia, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem to drive national sustainability goals.
A Vision For Sustainable Growth
Ihab ElSewerky, Managing Director and CEO of ADCB Egypt, stated, “ADCB’s continued support for this business accelerator is part of our ambitious strategy in sustainability and environmental responsibility. We aim to enhance the capabilities of startups and SMEs in climate technologies and drive the transition towards an integrated green economy that achieves the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.”
Eng. Ahmed Saleh, Executive Director of the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness Center at Nile University, emphasized that the program aims to develop practical and sustainable solutions to environmental and economic challenges. He noted, “The circular economy is no longer a luxury, but a necessity to build a secure future based on innovation and environmental protection.”
Dr. Essam Roshdy, Acting President of Nile University, added that the initiative reflects the university’s vision to support sustainable development and entrepreneurship. He highlighted its role as an academic platform connecting scientific research with industry and fostering collaboration with local and international institutions to support the green transition.
