Egypt’s Electronics Research Institute (ERI), with support from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, has launched a new Entrepreneurship Club to bridge the gap between scientific research and commercial viability. The initiative aims to empower researchers and innovators by providing a clear pathway to transform their discoveries into marketable products and successful startups.
The launch was announced during a specialized workshop titled “Investing in Scientific Research Outputs and Entrepreneurship: From Innovation to Market.” Held under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the event brought together leading experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs to discuss strategies for fostering a robust innovation ecosystem.
Bridging Innovation and Industry
The workshop featured a distinguished panel of experts who shared their insights on supporting innovation and connecting it with market needs. Speakers included Dr. Amr Suleiman, Professor of Economics at Helwan University; Dr. Wafaa Abdel Rasheed, an entrepreneurship consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); and Eng. Mohamed Ageez, co-founder of TIS Labs.
Discussions focused on the mechanisms for converting research ideas into viable products and strengthening the integration between scientific institutions and the industrial sector. A key panel, moderated by Dr. Amir Yassin and Mr. Islam Jihad Al-Din, explored the role of entrepreneurship in embedding a culture of innovation and advancing a knowledge-based economy.
A Vision for a Knowledge-Based Economy
In her keynote address, Dr. Sherine Muharram, President of the ERI, stated that the launch of the Entrepreneurship Club aligns with the institute’s vision to empower researchers and turn their ideas into tangible, executable projects.
“The institute provides an integrated package of facilities and support for entrepreneurs, including advanced infrastructure, technical services, and specialized technological consultations,” Dr. Muharram noted.
She further highlighted the successful track record of the institute’s affiliated Science and Technology City for Electronics Research and Industry, which has already supported the establishment of over 30 technology startups by providing them with dedicated workspaces and resources. This effort is central to building an integrated ecosystem for tech entrepreneurship in Egypt.
