Syria’s Ministry of Economy and Industry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the newly established Al-Maaref University for Applied Sciences. The partnership aims to enhance the quality of the national industrial sector by integrating scientific research and modern technical training into its core operations.

A Strategic Push for Industrial Modernization

The agreement, signed at the ministry’s headquarters, outlines a collaborative framework to boost the efficiency of industrial facilities across the country. Key objectives include providing specialized consulting and training services to local manufacturers and supporting the Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (SASMO) and its industrial testing centers. The goal is to align local production with international standards, improving both quality and competitiveness.

Bridging the Gap Between Academia and Industry

A central component of the MoU is the creation of practical pathways for students to enter the industrial workforce. The ministry will provide internship and practical training opportunities for Al-Maaref University students within its affiliated factories and companies. This hands-on experience is designed to complement their academic studies. Furthermore, the two entities will share access to critical infrastructure, including laboratories and research centers, to facilitate joint applied research projects that address real-world industrial challenges.

Fostering a Skilled Workforce

To support the long-term development of the sector, the partnership will focus on upskilling the existing and future workforce. The agreement includes plans for organizing joint training courses, workshops, and qualification programs centered on modern industrial and technical fields. An exchange of experts between the ministry and the university is also planned to foster a continuous flow of knowledge and enhance scientific and technical capabilities on both sides.
