4 Min Read

Omantel, the Sultanate’s leading integrated telecommunications provider, has officially launched Otech, a new platform positioned as a future-technology provider and a key enabler of Oman’s national digital transformation agenda. The launch signals a strategic pivot for the company from a traditional telecom operator to an integrated digital technology powerhouse.
The move comes in response to rapid growth in the ICT services market, fueled by government digital transformation initiatives and the broader expansion of the digital economy. The launch ceremony, held at the Royal Opera House Muscat, was attended by senior officials and technology specialists, where Otech also announced a series of strategic partnerships spanning hyperscale cloud, cybersecurity, and systems integration.

A Strategic Shift Aligned With Oman Vision 2040

Mulham bin Bashir al Jaraf, Chairman of Omantel’s board, stated that the launch cements Omantel’s new strategy focused on innovation and enabling the digital economy, aligning directly with Oman Vision 2040 and its focus on knowledge-based sectors.

“Omantel’s approach treats transformation as an ecosystem—upgrading infrastructure, delivering digital solutions, building national capabilities, developing business models, strengthening cross-sector integration and generating sustainable value for the economy,” Al Jaraf commented.

Alaa Al Din bin Abdullah Bait Fadhl, CEO of Omantel and Chairman of Otech, described the launch as a qualitative shift for both the company and Oman’s digital sector. He emphasized that Otech will play a central role in building a unified technology ecosystem anchored in innovation and competitiveness, supporting Oman’s ambitions to become a regional hub for technology.

An Ecosystem of Strategic Partnerships

To accelerate its mission, Otech has forged several high-profile partnerships. The company announced a collaboration with Oracle to deliver hyperscale cloud platforms via Oracle Alloy.

In cybersecurity, Otech will work with PwC to deliver advanced solutions and build local capabilities. It will also cooperate with Palo Alto Networks through its Unit 42 team for threat intelligence and incident response, and with Fortinet for cloud-enabled SASE cybersecurity solutions.

For systems integration and emerging technologies, Otech has partnered with global digital engineering leader Nagarro. Additionally, the company is collaborating with local entities like Nama Shared Services on smart-utilities solutions and Omani startups including Orki, Decoil, and Remedy.

Consolidating National Tech Assets

Otech will consolidate Omantel Group’s technology assets, bringing entities such as Oman Data Park and Tedom under a single, unified operating model. This integration aims to deliver advanced services across data centres, cloud, cybersecurity, AI, the Internet of Things, and systems integration, all under local governance.

Maqbool bin Salim Al Wohaibi, Acting CEO of Otech, highlighted that incorporating Oman Data Park strengthens the national digital infrastructure by scaling data-centre operations and sovereign cloud services for government and private clients.
As part of the launch, Omantel also inaugurated the Firq Data Centre, a core pillar within Otech designed to provide a secure and scalable environment for mission-critical operations. Otech now operates Oman’s most diversified cloud ecosystem and is the first in the Middle East to receive Amazon Web Services (AWS) accreditation to deliver sovereign cloud services.
