Adobe has announced the beta release of its new AI assistant for Photoshop, making the feature available to users on the web and mobile apps. The update introduces conversational AI to the world’s leading image editor, alongside a suite of new AI-powered capabilities for its Firefly media generation tool.
Conversational Editing Comes To Photoshop
First unveiled at Adobe’s MAX event last October, the AI assistant allows users to perform complex editing tasks using simple, natural language prompts. Creative professionals can now instruct the AI to remove objects or people, alter colors, or adjust lighting within an image conversationally.
The assistant can also handle commands to add effects like a soft glow, crop to specific formats, enhance shadows, or completely transform a background, streamlining workflows that previously required multiple manual steps.
In addition to text prompts, Adobe is introducing a feature called AI markup in public beta. This allows users to draw simple markers on an image to guide the AI, such as circling an object for removal or sketching a rough shape to be transformed into a detailed element like a flower.
Firefly Receives Major AI Upgrades
Adobe’s standalone media creation tool, Firefly, is also receiving significant enhancements. The platform will now include Generative Fill, a popular Photoshop feature that allows users to add or replace objects while seamlessly modifying the background.
Other new additions to Firefly include a generative remove feature for precise object removal, a generative expand tool for increasing an image’s canvas size using AI, and generative upscale capabilities. A one-click background removal tool is also being added to simplify common editing tasks.
Availability And Access
Paid Photoshop subscribers will have unlimited access to the AI assistant’s generations through April 9. Free users will receive an initial credit of 20 generations to test the new feature. This rollout follows Adobe’s move in February to offer unlimited generations for Firefly subscribers, aiming to encourage wider adoption and integration of AI into creative workflows.
Relevance For The MENA Creative Scene
For the burgeoning creative and tech sectors across the MENA region, Adobe’s latest AI advancements present a significant opportunity. Startups, marketing agencies, and freelance content creators in hubs like Dubai, Riyadh, and Cairo can leverage these tools to produce high-quality visual content more efficiently and at a lower cost.
The conversational nature of the AI assistant lowers the technical barrier for entrepreneurs and small teams, enabling them to create professional-grade marketing materials without extensive design experience. This democratization of advanced editing tools can accelerate brand development and digital marketing efforts for SMEs, a cornerstone of the region’s economic diversification goals.
