UAE’s Future Classrooms Demand a Blend of Digital and Print Technology

4 Min Read

A new study by Epson reveals that the ideal classroom of the future in the UAE will integrate modern digital tools with the established benefits of printed materials. The research, which surveyed parents and teachers, highlights a strong demand for more innovative, engaging, and interactive learning environments that cater to diverse educational needs.

A Blended Approach to Learning

The findings point to a consensus that technology is integral to modern education, with 70% of respondents viewing digital platforms as essential. Specifically, projectors are seen as a critical tool, with 76% considering them essential and 73% agreeing they enrich the learning process.

However, the value of traditional methods remains high. A significant 62% of participants believe printed resources encourage deeper reading and comprehension, while 52% agree printers are essential for effective teaching. This sentiment suggests that a hybrid model, combining the collaborative power of digital displays with the focused learning experience of print, is the preferred path forward.

The Push for Innovation and Technology

The study underscores a desire for evolution in teaching methods. A majority (56%) of respondents agreed that learning needs to be more innovative and engaging, with 51% calling for increased access to the latest technologies in schools. This includes a growing interest in Artificial Intelligence, with just over half of those surveyed expressing support for its integration into teaching.

Further priorities identified for enhancing educational effectiveness include improved teacher training and professional development to maximize the potential of new tools.

Addressing Screen Fatigue and Sustainability

While digital tools are embraced, their drawbacks are also recognized. Nearly three-quarters (73%) of respondents noted that students experience screen fatigue from laptops and tablets at least some of the time. In contrast, 59% stated that printed materials were easier on the eyes, reinforcing the need for a balanced approach.

Beyond the immediate learning experience, sustainability is a paramount concern. An overwhelming 95% of parents and teachers stated that eco-friendly features are a crucial consideration when selecting technology solutions for educational institutions.

Suat Özsoy, Vice President of Commercial Operations for Epson META-CWA, said, “At Epson, we are shaping the future of classrooms by empowering students and educators with innovative tools. Our latest survey highlights the growing demand for a blended approach to teaching in the UAE and the wider region – combining digital solutions with the proven benefits of print. Together, these technologies ensure a dynamic and enriching educational experience that supports the UAE’s vision to develop education and equip youth with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st-century.”
