The delegation, led by HBMSU Chancellor His Excellency Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, aimed to extract practical insights from ASU’s extensive digital education ecosystem. The institutional meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, were structured to support the development of high-impact academic units within HBMSU.
The primary focus centered on building operational and academic capacity for HBMSU’s newly established School of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, alongside the Global Academy for Commodities.

Assessing Scalable EdTech and Innovation Frameworks
During the visit, HBMSU leadership engaged in high-level discussions with ASU President Professor Michael Crow and Executive Vice President Dr. Chris Howard. The talks evaluated the future of higher education in the context of rapid digital transformation, specifically focusing on integrating applied artificial intelligence into university infrastructure.
To understand the mechanics of large-scale digital learning, the delegation toured key operational units at ASU. These included EdPlus, which specializes in mass digital learning models, and Enterprise Technology, the unit managing the university’s technological backbone.
The UAE delegation also examined innovation ecosystems by visiting Knowledge Enterprise and the SkySong innovation hub, which acts as an incubator for startups and research centers. Additionally, an engagement with the Thunderbird School of Global Management provided the HBMSU team with a blueprint for fostering collaboration between academic institutions and private industry.
The Shift Toward Stackable Credentials and Flexible Learning
A major component of the bilateral discussions involved modernizing how students acquire and apply knowledge. Both institutions explored work-integrated learning (WIL) models and flexible professional pathways designed to adapt to rapid shifts in the global labor market.
HBMSU utilized the platform to present its own stackable credentials model to ASU officials. This framework allows learners to construct adaptable educational pathways, merging professional certifications directly with academic degrees. According to the delegation, the model received positive feedback from ASU leadership for its direct alignment with modern workforce demands.
