Egypt’s Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) is bringing university entrepreneurship clubs into the planning for the second edition of its International Research Commercialization Expo (IRC Expo), scheduled for 2026. Dr. Gina El-Feky, Acting President of ASRT, recently held a major meeting with the clubs’ directors to integrate them into the expo’s preparations, aiming to strengthen the link between academic innovation and market demand.
Quick Facts
- Event: Second edition of the IRC Expo, planned for 2026.
- Theme: “Market the Mind,” focusing on research commercialization.
- Goal: Connect university research and innovators with industry needs.
Bridging Academia and Industry
The meeting, attended by Dr. Amr Farouk, Assistant President for Technological Development, focused on involving the university clubs directly in the expo. The objective is to leverage their networks to highlight the work of young researchers and innovators, promote a culture of self-employment, and help transform academic ideas into viable, value-added projects within Egypt’s knowledge economy.
During the session, ASRT presented a detailed executive plan for the upcoming expo. The presentation also reviewed the successful outcomes of the first edition, which demonstrated the event’s effectiveness in supporting the innovation-to-market pipeline.
A Platform for Commercialization
Dr. El-Feky emphasized that the IRC Expo is designed as an integrated platform to connect the outputs of scientific research with real-world market requirements. The event brings together innovators and researchers on one side, and investors and industrial entities on the other, facilitating the conversion of ideas into practical applications and effective partnerships.
The expo also provides a comprehensive support system, including access to funding bodies and experts in technology marketing. It serves as a crucial forum for dialogue between policymakers and innovation specialists, further developing the environment for commercializing scientific research in the country. The previous edition saw significant international participation, solidifying its position as a key regional event for turning knowledge into economic value.
