New EduIndex Report Reveals UAE and Egypt Are Leading the MENA Charge in AI-Powered Student Recruitment

3 Min Read

The way prospective students discover universities is fundamentally changing, shifting from traditional Google searches to inquiries on AI platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini. A new report from Anything is Possible’s university ranking tool, EduIndex, reveals that institutions in the UAE and Egypt are at the forefront of this new discovery landscape, establishing a new hierarchy of prestige in the region.

Quick Facts

  • Egypt’s AASTMT is the regional leader in AI visibility.
  • UAE has a 64% generative AI adoption rate.
  • The index tracks 500+ universities across seven AI models.

UAE’s High AI Adoption Fuels University Visibility

The EduIndex report underscores the UAE’s role as a global leader in AI adoption, noting that 64% of the country’s working-age population actively uses generative AI. This widespread use has pushed the nation’s higher education sector to adapt quickly.

As a result, several UAE institutions have achieved prominent positions in the regional AI visibility rankings. Ajman University, Khalifa University, and UAE University have all secured spots within the top six, demonstrating their successful adaptation to being discoverable through large language models (LLMs).

Egypt’s Universities Emerge as AI-Ready Leaders

While legacy university rankings often lean towards Western institutions, the AI-first discovery model is highlighting the strengths of Egypt’s higher education system. The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) was identified by the March 2026 EduIndex report as the number one university in the MENA region for AI visibility.

Egypt’s strong performance extends beyond the top spot, with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and Mansoura University also placing in the top ten. This shows that Egyptian universities are proving more prepared for the AI-driven shift in student recruitment than many of their international peers.

The New Battlefield for Student Attention

Ranking high on the EduIndex is about more than just reputation; it’s about ensuring a university is visible on the platforms where the next generation of students is actively searching. The data suggests that significant gains in the rankings can be made in just a few months, but it demands a strategy that goes beyond traditional SEO.

“The discovery channel for students has changed,” explains Sam Fenton Elstone, CEO and Founder at Anything is Possible. “In 2026, if you are not visible to an LLM, you are invisible to the student. We are seeing MENA universities in a sprint to adapt, driving rapid, dynamic shifts across the region.”
