Jordan’s JEDCO And GIZ Partner To Launch National Green Transformation Project For SMEs

4 Min Read

In a significant move to align Jordan’s industrial sector with global sustainability standards, a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to launch the Green Transformation Project. This strategic partnership brings together the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO), the National Fund for Enterprise Support (NAFES), and the Green Action in Enterprises (GAIN) project, implemented by GIZ. The initiative is designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) transition toward a circular economy, ensuring they remain competitive while reducing their environmental footprint.

Enhancing Resource Efficiency and SME Competitiveness

The Green Transformation Project recognizes that for Jordanian SMEs, adopting sustainable practices is no longer optional but a core requirement for cost reduction and market growth. Through this initiative, participating businesses will receive specialized support to assess their current environmental standing and identify specific areas where they can implement more efficient business practices. By focusing on resource efficiency and sustainability performance, the project aims to help local manufacturers lower operational costs and meet the increasingly stringent “green” requirements of international trade partners.

Accessing Green Finance and Capacity Building

A critical component of the MoU is bridging the gap between green ambition and financial viability. The partnership will provide SMEs with a structured pathway to access green finance, enabling them to invest in energy-efficient technologies and sustainable infrastructure. Beyond capital, the program emphasizes capacity building, offering technical assistance to help business owners and managers develop the skills necessary to lead a green transition. This holistic approach ensures that SMEs have both the knowledge and the resources to implement scalable environmental solutions.

Aligned with Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision

The project is a direct contribution to Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision, which prioritizes a transition to a green and resilient economy. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by Jordan’s Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, the GAIN project serves as a catalyst for industrial resilience. By fostering a circular economy, Jordan seeks to position its industrial sector as a regional leader in sustainable production, driving long-term economic stability.

JEDCO provides a wide array of technical and financial support programs aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian products in local and international markets.
