Dubai’s business infrastructure has received a significant upgrade as DMCC, one of the world’s flagship free zones, announced a major expansion of its partnership with the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts. The move grants over 26,000 companies registered in DMCC direct access to the full suite of commercial and personal legal services offered by the premier English-language common law jurisdiction.
Quick Facts
- Over 26,000 DMCC companies gain new legal access.
- Services include dispute resolution, mediation, and notary.
- Specialist courts for the digital economy and crypto assets.
A Strategic Move for Legal Certainty
This expanded Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) builds on a decade-long relationship between the two Dubai-based institutions. It effectively embeds a world-class legal framework directly into the DMCC business community, allowing member companies to operate with greater confidence in their international dealings.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, stated, “As global trade flows become increasingly interconnected, access to sophisticated legal infrastructure is critical to maintaining business confidence and supporting international growth. Our expanded partnership with the DIFC Courts reinforces Dubai’s position as one of the world’s most competitive and business-friendly jurisdictions.”
For DMCC members, this means they can now write a DIFC Courts jurisdiction clause into any commercial contract with partners anywhere in the world, ensuring access to English common law dispute resolution handled by internationally recognised judges.
“Legal certainty is not a luxury for businesses operating at the frontier of global trade. It is the foundation on which everything else is built,” said H.E. Justice Omar Al Mheiri, Director at the DIFC Courts. “This partnership ensures that capability is not just theoretically available, but practically understood, accessible and used.”
From Commercial Disputes to Digital Assets
The partnership offers practical solutions across the entire business lifecycle. Beyond traditional commercial dispute resolution, it introduces faster and lower-cost alternatives like the DIFC Courts Mediation Service Centre, where mediated settlements carry the same legal weight as a court judgment.
Critically for the tech and startup community within DMCC, the agreement provides access to the DIFC Courts Digital Economy Court. This specialist forum is designed to handle complex disputes arising from AI-generated contracts, digital asset insolvency, and blockchain-related evidence.
The collaboration also extends to personal legal planning for the international founders and executives that make up the DMCC community. The DIFC Courts Wills Service, including its Digital Assets Wills Service launched in 2025, allows non-Muslim business owners to protect personal and business assets, including cryptocurrency and digital tokens.
To ensure adoption, DMCC and the DIFC Courts will roll out joint briefings, workshops, and webinars, and will integrate DIFC Courts service information directly into the DMCC member portal.
