Doha Design District, the creative hub at the heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha, has launched ‘Mada and Sada,’ an immersive new platform designed to trace the entire journey of creative work from its initial spark to its final public form. The initiative aims to provide a space where artists and the community can connect with the process of creation, not just the finished product.
Quick Facts
- New creative platform launched in Qatar.
- Named ‘Mada and Sada’ (origin and echo).
- Focuses on the full journey of creation.
- Located in Msheireb Downtown Doha.
From Impulse to Echo: A New Creative Model
The platform’s name encapsulates its core concept: ‘Mada’ (the origin or impulse) and ‘Sada’ (the echo or expression). Visitors can explore two distinct but connected spaces that demystify the creative process. The launch event featured the ‘Msheireb Symphony’ by Qatari composer Dana Alfardan, a piece commissioned to reflect the history and vision of the smart city.
Inside the ‘Mada’ space, creators Yasamin Sheikhi and Nada Al Kharashi offered an honest look into their work, sharing the thinking, doubts, and discoveries that led to their final pieces. Meanwhile, the ‘Sada’ space showcased 20 shortlisted proposals from the District’s Public Art Open Call, giving the public an unfiltered view of projects competing to shape Doha’s urban landscape.
The visual identity for Mada and Sada was conceived by Samar Maakaroun, Partner and Creative Director at the international design studio Pentagram, who drew inspiration from the architectural language of Msheireb Downtown Doha.
Building a Collaborative Cultural Hub
The initiative is central to Doha Design District’s goal of fostering an open and evolving creative community. The launch kicks off an ongoing program of workshops, exhibitions, and collaborations aimed at both emerging and established talent.
Dana Kazic, Director of Doha Design District, stated: “At Doha Design District, we believe that creativity flourishes in environments that are open, collaborative, and constantly evolving. Through ‘Mada and Sada,’ we’re creating a platform where creatives can experiment, connect, and bring their ideas to life — contributing to a cultural ecosystem that resonates both locally and globally.”
The platform intends to dissolve the traditional boundary between the artist’s studio and the public gallery, positioning creation as a dynamic, unresolved process that invites community engagement.
Design as a Transformative Force for Doha
‘Mada and Sada’ is the latest initiative reflecting Doha Design District’s conviction that design is a transformative discipline capable of shaping a city’s identity and growth. By embedding its programs within the urban fabric of Msheireb Downtown Doha, the District uses the city itself as a canvas for new ideas and experimentation.
This approach supports a key mission: to build a connected ecosystem where designers have the infrastructure to develop their practice and the public is invited into the creative dialogue. This model is designed to generate new outcomes that neither creators nor audiences could achieve alone, aligning with Msheireb Properties’ vision to empower Qatar’s design industries and advance the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
