Syria has announced the launch of the “Syrian International Platform for Smart Industrial Cities” in a new push to strengthen industrial and investment cooperation with China. The initiative, a collaboration between the Syrian-Chinese Business Council, Suzhou Land Group, and Grofast, is designed to support development and reconstruction projects across the country.
Quick Facts
- New platform launched in China
- Focus on smart industrial city development
- First projects announced for Damascus and Aleppo
- Aims to attract Chinese investment and technology
A Strategic Shift to Industrial Partnership
The platform’s primary goal is to transfer China’s extensive industrial experience to Syria. This will be facilitated through twinning programs between industrial cities, knowledge and technology transfer, and training for the Syrian workforce. The initiative seeks to build sustainable industrial partnerships that go beyond traditional trade.
Fadi Al-Ahmad Al-Muhaimeed, Chairman of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council, described the platform as a strategic step. He stated that the goal is to transition Syrian-Chinese economic relations from a phase of commercial exchange to one of partnership in industrial development by importing Chinese industrial expertise.
Damascus and Aleppo to Host First Projects
The launch event, attended by government officials and business leaders from both countries, also saw the announcement of the platform’s first two projects: a Smart Furniture City in Damascus and a second Smart Furniture City in Aleppo. These initial projects signal a concrete start to the platform’s wider ambitions.
An Open Invitation for Chinese Investment
Syrian officials emphasized their openness to Chinese participation in the country’s economic future. Mohammad Zakaria Lababidi, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in China, confirmed that Syria welcomes Chinese companies interested in contributing to development and reconstruction projects.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Lababidi noted the continuous development of Syrian-Chinese relations and stated that the next stage requires expanding economic and industrial cooperation to serve the mutual interests of both nations. He also highlighted the role of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council in turning cooperation opportunities into practical projects that align with Syria’s development priorities.
