Saudi Logistics Giant SAL Acquires Belgian Aviapartner Liege To Expand European Footprint

3 Min Read

SAL Saudi Logistics Services has successfully completed the 100% acquisition of Aviapartner Liège SA, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion strategy. The transaction, valued at approximately SAR 120 million (EUR 28 million), establishes the Saudi logistics leader’s first direct operational presence outside the Kingdom and expands its global network to 20 stations. Funded entirely through internal resources, the cash deal has received all necessary regulatory approvals, allowing the acquired entity to officially integrate into the group’s wider operational structure.

Strategic Entry Into Europe’s Golden Freight Triangle

The acquisition grants SAL a strategic foothold at Liège Airport in Belgium, currently ranked as the fifth-largest air cargo hub in Europe by volume. Handling over one million tons annually and classified among the world’s top 25 cargo airports, Liège has demonstrated robust growth, with freight volumes surging by more than 50% since 2018. The airport is ideally positioned within Europe’s “Golden Triangle” of freight, a region that processes over 70% of European cargo and serves as a vital gateway to major trade centers across Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Luxembourg. SAL’s CEO, Omar Talal Hariri, highlighted that the move goes beyond mere expansion, aiming to build a comprehensive platform that connects markets, capabilities, and customers across key global trade corridors.

Diversifying Revenue And Scaling Operations

Following the completion of the share transfer, Aviapartner Liège SA is now directly owned by SAL International Ground Services BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SAL. This operational integration provides immediate synergies across air cargo handling, specialized shipments, warehouse logistics, and European land distribution. By adding operations outside its domestic market, SAL aims to diversify its revenue streams and capitalize on the continuous growth of the global supply chain sector. The financial impact of this transaction will be reflected in the company’s financial statements starting from the third quarter of 2026. The move closely aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, cementing the Kingdom’s position as a premier global logistics hub.
