Saudi Aramco’s venture arm has led a $9.5M Series A investment in Indian climate tech startup Mitti Labs, marking its first investment in an Indian startup.
The round also included Lightspeed India, Godrej Industries Group, Cisco Foundation, Francis Family Fund and Volta Circle. It brings Mitti Labs’ total funding to $12.5M since the company was founded in 2023 by Devdut Dalal, Xavier Laguarta Soler and Nathan Torbick.
Mitti Labs has developed a GeoAI platform that combines satellite imagery, field data and physical models to create digital twins of individual rice fields. With support from NASA, the platform tracks crop health, soil moisture, flooding and irrigation at the farm level.
The company said its technology helps farmers adopt Alternate Wetting and Drying, an irrigation method that periodically allows rice fields to dry before re-flooding. According to Mitti Labs, the approach can reduce water consumption by nearly 40% and methane emissions by more than 50% while maintaining yields. Participating farmers can also generate carbon credits.
Mitti Labs plans to use the funding to expand across India and launch projects in the Philippines, followed by Indonesia. The company aims to support more water-efficient rice farming and climate-focused agricultural projects across Asia.
