Dubai has ranked second globally in the first Intelligent Cities Index published by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which assessed 61 cities across 39 countries.
The index measures how effectively cities use digital technologies and artificial intelligence to deliver practical outcomes for residents and businesses. It evaluates five areas: outcomes, strategy, adoption, ways of working and enablers, supported by 35 indicators across 14 dimensions of digital transformation.
Dubai ranked first globally for the adoption of AI technologies and smart city solutions, the strongest-performing area in the index. According to the report, the emirate’s widespread use of AI applications and digital services has helped build one of the highest levels of digital maturity among the cities assessed.
Digital Dubai said the ranking reflects the impact of shared digital infrastructure, data and collaboration across government and economic sectors. The Dubai Future Foundation said the city’s progress is measured by how effectively emerging technologies improve productivity, services and growth opportunities.
The report also found that cities placing AI at the centre of their operations tend to achieve stronger improvements in quality of life and service delivery. It noted particularly strong enthusiasm for AI adoption across Middle Eastern cities, including Dubai.
