Google Lets Users Remove Visible Watermarks From Ai-Generated Media

Google will soon let users remove visible watermarks from AI-generated images, videos and songs, while keeping its invisible SynthID watermark and C2PA metadata in place.

Josh Woodward, Google’s vice president for Gemini, said the option will be available for the Nano Banana, Omni and Lyria models. Users will be able to manage it through a new setting in Gemini and Google’s Flow video editor, with support for Search expected later.

The feature is expected to roll out in the coming days. Once available, users can go to Settings > Media Watermark to turn the visible mark on or off.

Google said the change is intended to give creators more control over how generated content is used without removing mechanisms that help identify AI-generated media. SynthID and C2PA metadata will remain active, and Google said Gemini or Search can still be used to check whether an image was generated by AI.

The company also announced Credentio, an open-source library that allows developers to add local validation mechanisms to their applications.
