Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has invested in Lesha Bank’s Lesha Qatar Equity Fund, making the bank the first local asset manager and the fourth partner in the sovereign fund’s Active Asset Management Initiative.

Launched in 2024, the initiative provides seed capital to funds managed by selected global and local asset managers through the reallocation of shares in companies listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange, according to the announcement. Previous partners include Franklin Templeton, Ashmore and Fiera Capital.

The Sharia-compliant fund aims to generate capital growth and income by investing in a diversified portfolio of stocks included in the QE Al Rayan Islamic Index or Sharia-compliant constituents of the QE All Share Index.

QIA did not disclose the value of its investment. The move is intended to support local asset managers and contribute to the development and diversification of Qatar’s capital markets.

Founded in 2008, Lesha Bank manages approximately QAR19.2 billion ($5.3 billion) in assets and offers Sharia-compliant investment banking, asset management and alternative investment solutions.
