Stripe Reportedly to Acquire OpenRouter for More Than $7B

Stripe has finalized an agreement to acquire AI gateway startup OpenRouter for more than $7B, according to Bloomberg, in a deal that would value the company at a sharp premium to its latest reported valuation.

OpenRouter gives customers a single access point to multiple AI models, allowing them to choose systems based on their needs and budgets while reducing dependence on a single provider. The startup said in May that it had raised a $113M Series B at a reported $1.3B valuation.

Its investors include Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures and Alphabet’s Capital G. OpenRouter has also said it serves 8 million users globally and provides access to more than 400 models.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Stripe and OpenRouter were in acquisition talks. A Stripe spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.

The reported transaction would give Stripe a stronger position in the AI infrastructure market, while highlighting growing demand for tools that help businesses compare and switch between AI models.
