Saudi Mapping App Hudhud Surpasses 1 Million Users

Saudi mapping app Hudhud has surpassed 1 million users, according to an update shared by the company, as it expands its features and competes with established global navigation platforms in the Kingdom.

The update highlighted new features, technical improvements and data updates. Hudhud also appeared among the leading free navigation apps on the Saudi App Store, ahead of Google Maps and other navigation services in available rankings. Google Play data showed more than 100,000 downloads, although the company’s user figure covers multiple platforms and uses a different measurement.

Hudhud’s positioning is built around local mapping data. The app provides route guidance, traffic and road-closure alerts, information on accidents, speed bumps and cameras, as well as Arabic interface and voice-navigation options. The company said it uses LiDAR, panoramic imaging, computer vision and artificial intelligence to collect and update geographic data.

The platform also offers virtual exploration, panoramic imagery, national addresses, facility entrances, metro routes, 3D maps and place discovery. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and provides mapping, geographic data and place-search services for developers.

User reviews have praised the app’s road details and handling of construction and diversions, while also pointing to issues with place searches, coverage, performance and CarPlay. Hudhud allows users to report problems and add missing locations, creating a feedback loop to improve its map as usage grows.
