Egypt has launched a biometric verification and electronic signature system that will allow users to access identity-dependent digital services remotely through mobile operators’ smartphone applications.
The system is being developed by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), digital solutions company Cyshield and a licensed electronic signature provider. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology supplied the regulatory framework, infrastructure and integration platform, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
Users will be able to complete verification and electronic signature processes through their mobile operator’s app without visiting a branch. The system uses locally developed digital and biometric verification tools, with controls designed to protect personal data and secure transactions, according to the announcement.
The rollout is currently in a trial phase. Licensed mobile operators will introduce the service gradually based on their technical readiness, with the scope of supported services and transactions expected to expand over time.
The system is intended to serve as a foundation for Egypt’s emerging digital identity infrastructure, supporting wider use of biometric verification across government services and other applications that require secure identity checks.
