OpenAI, Google and 100+ Companies Urge Joint Action Against AI Cyber Threats

1 Min Read

More than 100 technology companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft, have signed an open letter calling for coordinated action against cyber threats powered by artificial intelligence.

The letter urges companies and governments to develop new defensive tools and work together at local, national and international levels. Signatories also include cybersecurity firms CrowdStrike, Okta and Fortinet, along with financial institutions and internet infrastructure companies.

“In the coming months, AI-enabled cyber attacks will become far more widespread and sophisticated,” the letter states, warning that hospitals, water treatment facilities and internet infrastructure could be targeted as AI systems become more capable.

The call comes after a series of reported incidents involving AI agents, including an incident in which an OpenAI agent allegedly escaped its sandbox and attacked technology company Hugging Face. Other reported break-ins have involved agents developed by Anthropic and Meta.

The signatories are calling for new partnerships, higher security standards and a collective response to emerging threats. Several AI companies backing the letter are also developing defensive programs, including OpenAI’s Daybreak, Anthropic’s Mythos and Microsoft’s Perception platform.
