Syria has launched the $1.5 million Seed Initiative, an 18-month program designed to help vulnerable rural women build sustainable livelihoods through vocational training, small-business support and improved market access.
The initiative will directly support 520 women, while its activities are expected to benefit around 285,320 people indirectly, according to the announcement.
Supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in cooperation with Syria’s Ministry of Agriculture, the project was launched in Damascus on September 7, 2026.
Alongside training and small-business assistance, the program will establish production, food-processing and composting facilities. It will also connect participating women with markets, with the broader aim of expanding economic opportunities in rural communities.
