Tunisian innovator Khadija Jellouli has developed an electric car designed to make daily travel easier for people with disabilities and limited mobility.
A wheelchair user herself, Jellouli drew on her own mobility challenges to develop the vehicle. She worked on the project at her Hawkar workshop with two friends who also use wheelchairs, progressing through research, testing and product development.
The car features a rear door that allows users to bring in a wheelchair and can accommodate two people. Its simplified driving system includes a handle-equipped steering wheel, while an integrated dashboard screen provides information to help the driver identify routes and destinations.
Jellouli has developed two versions: a standard model and a more advanced option that can be customised to individual user needs. The vehicle can reach a speed of around 45 kilometres per hour.
The project remains at the prototype and limited-production stage. Jellouli is seeking investors and partners to help expand manufacturing and make the vehicle available to more people with disabilities and limited mobility, according to the report.
