The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Yemen’s Taiz Governorate have launched an entrepreneurship initiative supporting 50 business owners with practical tools to improve and grow their existing ventures.
The programme combines business training with the development of national entrepreneurship trainers, with the aim of expanding access to support for entrepreneurs across Yemen. It is being delivered through the ILO’s Start and Improve Your Business programme, using its Improve Your Business package.
Women account for around 70% to 80% of participating entrepreneurs and 80% of the trainers, according to the announcement.
Participants will receive tools covering business management and development, followed by structured mentoring to help them apply the training within their companies. The initiative also gives selected national trainers the opportunity to strengthen their skills under the supervision of the programme’s master trainers.
The ILO said the dual approach is designed to support the resilience and sustainability of existing businesses, preserve jobs and contribute to job creation and economic recovery in Yemen. The partnership also aims to expand the pool of qualified national trainers and build a more sustainable entrepreneurship support ecosystem.
