Egypt’s Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship met to review efforts to strengthen the country’s startup ecosystem and help innovation- and knowledge-driven companies grow, expand and compete in local and international markets.
The meeting was chaired by Hussein Issa, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, and brought together ministers, regulators and officials responsible for investment, small businesses, innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to the announcement, discussions focused on removing barriers facing startups, improving coordination between government bodies, and building a more integrated support system covering funding, investment, business development and technical, administrative and marketing expertise.
The group also examined ways to help Egyptian startups enter regional and international markets and increase exports of innovation- and knowledge-based products and services.
Issa said entrepreneurship is a government priority because startups and innovative projects contribute to economic growth, job creation and competitiveness. He added that support should extend beyond company formation to include the tools and services founders need to build sustainable businesses and scale.
The meeting also highlighted closer cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, investors, financial institutions, incubators and accelerators. The government said this coordination is intended to simplify procedures, improve services for entrepreneurs and create a more competitive environment for startups in Egypt.
