Iwan Books has closed its first investment round, led by a strategic investment from Dr. Ahmed Sami, founder and CEO of Eye Advertising Group, as the self-publishing startup develops an AI-powered platform for authors and content creators.
Founded by entrepreneur, writer and publisher Mohamed Gamal, Iwan is building tools that support the publishing process across web browsers, smartphones and tablets. The platform is designed to help users create, publish, distribute and promote their work across multiple formats.
Its planned features include AI-assisted cover design, proofreading, audiobook conversion, promotional video creation, marketing support and audience outreach. The company has begun releasing trial versions and attracting early users, according to the announcement.
Iwan is targeting users aged 15 to 30 and describes its focus as the “post-print book” era, where readers may discover content through video, audio and other digital formats before engaging with a full book. The startup is also targeting an estimated 500 million Arabic- and English-speaking authors and readers, with ambitions to reach audiences beyond Arab markets.
The company’s model treats a book as the starting point for other content, including e-books, audiobooks, short-form videos and visual marketing materials. Its next challenge will be testing whether authors and readers adopt this integrated approach while maintaining content quality and intellectual property protections.
