French telecoms group Orange will provide training grants to around 200,000 Egyptians in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, while committing €25 million to support Egyptian startups working in AI and advanced technologies.
The pledge followed a meeting between Orange Group CEO Christel Heydemann and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. According to the announcement, the training will include internationally recognised professional certifications, with a focus on AI, data analysis, cloud computing and cybersecurity.
Orange will also equip several Egyptian universities with technology laboratories, giving students access to current digital tools and practical training.
El-Sisi asked Orange to study potential cooperation on the second phase of Egypt’s national digital health project, citing the company’s expertise in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity and systems integration. The presidency did not announce an agreement on the project.
The commitment adds to a series of technology-sector training initiatives in Egypt. It follows a three-year agreement between Egypt’s communications ministry and Intel to train one million citizens annually and prepare 1,500 certified trainers. Microsoft, IBM, Huawei and Oracle have also announced separate skills-development targets in the country.
