Private investment in Oman’s space sector rose from OMR20 million ($52 million) in 2023 to OMR74 million in 2025, nearly quadrupling since the launch of the country’s national space policy, according to the Oman News Agency.
Oman is developing a commercial space industry as part of its economic diversification strategy. About 65 percent of projects covering space sovereignty, satellites and space launches have entered implementation under the policy and its executive programme, said Said Hamoud Al Maawali, minister of transport, communications and information technology.
The number of companies operating in the sector also increased from 11 in 2023 to 25 in 2025, while employment across government and private institutions grew by 163 percent, the ministry said.
In November 2025, Oman signed an agreement with Airbus Defence and Space to design, manufacture and launch the OmanSat-1 communications satellite. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2029.
The ministry is also drafting an Omani Space Law aimed at meeting international obligations, strengthening investor confidence and supporting sustainable growth.
