Google Launches Gemini Agent for Businesses With Access to Company Systems

Google is bringing Gemini into the agentic AI era with a unified assistant that can plan tasks and take action on a user’s behalf, initially targeting businesses.

Announced at a Google Cloud event, the agent can work toward objectives rather than simply follow individual instructions. It can use custom skills and tools, connect to internal systems, generate code, schedule meetings and complete other assigned tasks, according to the company.

Gemini can connect with platforms including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres and Snowflake. It can also work with Model Context Protocol servers inside or outside a company’s network.

Users will be able to monitor its activity through a tasks inbox showing progress, delegated work, loaded skills and code. Google said the agent will have its own Workspace account, email address and context, with actions recorded in an audit trail attributed to the agent.

Gemini will be available across mobile, desktop, command-line and workplace applications, including Slack and ServiceNow. Google said it will select the best model for each task by default, while users can choose alternatives, starting with Anthropic’s Claude models.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said Gemini has more than 1 billion monthly active users, while nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise. Early testers included On, Shopify and PayPal.
