The National Experts Programme – Artificial Intelligence Track (NEP-AI) is sending 16 Emirati AI experts to Beijing and Shanghai for a five-day study visit focused on China’s research, technology and digital government ecosystem.

Running from 12 to 16 October 2026, the visit is organised under the theme “AI Governance, Smart Nation Systems and Digital Government.” It will examine how China moves AI research into entrepreneurship, commercial applications and large-scale deployment, as well as how policy and digital systems support government services.

The delegation is scheduled to engage with Zhipu.ai, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, ByteDance, robotics company AgiBot and enterprise AI operating system Agentrix.

According to the announcement, the meetings will give participants exposure to different parts of China’s AI ecosystem, from research and policy to commercialisation and implementation.

The China trip is one of three international study visits organised through NEP-AI. The 16 participants will be accompanied by six alumni and Fellows from previous NEP cohorts, who will contribute to discussions and knowledge exchange.
