Honeywell Technologies has been selected by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) to provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex at GPIC’s industrial site in Sitra, Bahrain.
According to the announcement, the facility is expected to produce around 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene and 500,000 metric tons of benzene annually. The products are key feedstocks for plastics, polyester fibres and packaging materials.
Honeywell Technologies UOP will provide the process technology licensing, engineering and related services, as well as catalysts, adsorbents and equipment. The project will use UOP’s Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming and LDPX Aromatics Complex technologies.
GPIC CEO Yasser A. Rahim Alabbasi said the project would strengthen the company’s production capabilities and support its long-term industrial growth. Honeywell Technologies said the agreement reflects GPIC’s confidence in its technology and execution capabilities.
The two companies have previously worked together on pressure swing adsorption technology, adsorbents and process automation solutions at GPIC’s ammonia and methanol facilities.
