U.S.-based growth investment firm Activate Capital has joined the Qatar Investment Authority’s (QIA) $3 billion Fund of Funds and plans to open its first international office in Doha.
Activate Capital invests from Series B through the pre-IPO stage in smart energy, infrastructure, mobility, digital industry, supply chain resilience and climate adaptation. Through the partnership, it aims to expand its investment strategy across the Global South, focusing on markets undergoing digital and decarbonization shifts.
The Doha office will include senior investment professionals, including a partner focused on Qatar. Activate Capital also plans to recruit Qatari and international talent to build a local team and strengthen its regional presence.
QIA launched the Fund of Funds in February 2024 to attract international venture capital firms to Qatar, encourage knowledge exchange and support startup growth in Qatar and the wider region.
QIA Head of Funds Mohsen Berzadda said the initiative is intended to build stronger links between Qatar and the global venture capital ecosystem. Activate Capital co-founder Anup Jacob said the firm welcomed QIA as a limited partner and member of its Limited Partner Advisory Committee.
The partnership is expected to connect Activate Capital’s portfolio companies and investment strategy with Qatar’s growing innovation ecosystem, particularly across energy and infrastructure.
