Dubai Police has identified 10 artificial intelligence opportunities that could reshape policing by 2040, including AI-powered criminal investigations, autonomous patrol systems, proactive threat detection and personalised police services.

The opportunities were identified by the Dubai Police Future Foresight Centre through an analysis of global technology trends and international reports. According to the announcement, the technologies could help law enforcement anticipate threats, support officers and manage more complex security tasks.

Other areas highlighted include physical AI using robots and drones, AI agent swarms, self-adaptive cybersecurity, hybrid human-AI teams, cognitive operating models and generative security simulations. These simulations could create changing virtual scenarios for police training, emergency preparedness and operational planning.

Dubai Police said AI-powered investigation platforms could combine digital and physical evidence, identify patterns and help investigators test hypotheses. Intelligent patrol systems could also bring together sensors, analytics and decision-making tools to improve resource deployment and response times.

Brigadier Dr Hamdan Ahmad Al Ghassiya, director of the Future Foresight Centre, said AI is expected to move beyond its role as a support tool and take on increasingly complex operational and security tasks, with varying levels of autonomy.

The centre also stressed that clear roles, accountability and controls will remain important as police organisations adopt AI. The assessment is intended to strengthen Dubai Police’s readiness for rapid technological change and support a shift towards more proactive security services.
