Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed an agreement with OpenAI and G42 to deploy advanced artificial intelligence across its operations, targeting faster decisions and greater efficiency in energy production, resource management and investment.
Signed on November 2, 2026, during ADIPEC 2026, the partnership makes ADNOC the first energy company to adopt OpenAI’s Frontier platform, according to the announcement.
The initial phase will connect operational and geological data from production, refining, logistics and trading. One targeted application will use information from thousands of wells, reservoirs and facilities to develop and optimize oilfield plans in hours rather than months, the company said.
ADNOC also plans to use AI agents to assess supply and demand forecasts, oil prices, profit margins and the operational and commercial effects of different decisions.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the partnership will apply the company’s most advanced models to complex, high-value operational challenges. He also highlighted the importance of energy and physical infrastructure to expanding AI services.
The agreement adds to OpenAI’s growing activity in the UAE, including plans for an AI data center complex with a total capacity of 5 gigawatts and cooperation with Mubadala and Inception42 on investment analysis, opportunity identification and risk assessment.
ADNOC already uses more than 200 AI applications across its activities and is developing tools for reservoir and industrial data analysis.
