Mustafa Abdel Qawi Mohamed, a graduate of Capital University’s Faculty of Applied Arts, has won first place in the medium-projects category of Egypt’s National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the South Upper Egypt region.
His project proposes a factory producing environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic by recycling sugarcane waste, known as bagasse. The planned products include cups, plates, food utensils and packaging, with the aim of reducing agricultural waste and plastic pollution while supporting sustainable manufacturing.
Mohamed was recognised by the governors of Qena, Luxor and Aswan, as well as the secretary-general of Sohag governorate, for the project’s regional achievement.
Capital University said its Entrepreneurship Club supported participants in the initiative through workshops. University officials described the award as an example of how academic creativity can develop into practical projects with economic and environmental value.
