The Damascus and Countryside Chamber of Industry has discussed building an economic partnership with Biyat, a business development association from Tripoli, Lebanon, with a focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Chamber president Mohamed Ayman al-Mawlawi and a delegation led by Biyat chairman Nasri Mouawad examined ways to strengthen cooperation between Syrian and Lebanese business sectors. The meeting also included members of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s board.
According to the announcement, al-Mawlawi said the chamber wants to benefit from Biyat’s experience in supporting and empowering SMEs over roughly two decades. He added that cooperation could help improve the local business environment, support Syrian industry and strengthen SME performance.
Mouawad said the visit reflects Biyat’s work in entrepreneurship and SME development, based on studies prepared in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy. The association aims to contribute to reviving Syrian companies and improving their performance, according to the announcement.
Founded in 2006, Biyat is a nonprofit organisation that provides startup incubation, training and consulting services while working to strengthen the business environment and support job creation.
