Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has showcased artificial intelligence, automation and advanced inspection technologies aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of Dubai’s electricity distribution network.
DEWA Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer reviewed the initiatives during a visit to the Distribution Power division’s complex in Al Ruwayyah.
Among the projects was the Asset Health Centre, which uses real-time data on asset condition, risk and maintenance needs to support risk-based planning, optimise replacement schedules and reduce the likelihood of failures, according to the utility.
DEWA also presented its Distribution Automation programme, which uses RF-Mesh technology to remotely monitor and control distribution assets from centralised control centres. The programme forms part of the authority’s broader Smart Grid strategy.
Other technologies included the ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited Cable Lab and Energy Meter Testing Lab, which support testing, quality assurance and asset lifecycle management. DEWA also highlighted X-ray inspections for capacitor bank circuit breakers, saying the technique can identify internal defects without dismantling equipment or interrupting operations.
The visit included DEWA’s Mobile Training Unit, which delivers safety and operational training to field teams. Between 2021 and 2025, the programme trained more than 9,200 employees.
