Dubai Municipality has upgraded its household water quality testing service with artificial intelligence to detect bacterial contamination, including Legionella and E. coli, at an earlier stage.
The enhanced system covers domestic and recreational water sources such as storage tanks, taps, swimming pools and non-bottled drinking water. According to the announcement, it is designed to help identify and contain contaminants sooner, supporting public health and water safety across Dubai.
AI and a fully electronic result-reading process have also reduced laboratory testing times, allowing results for Legionella and E. coli to be issued faster than with conventional methods. The quicker turnaround can support more immediate corrective action when required.
Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, said the technology would strengthen proactive protection against public health risks while improving testing speed and reliability.
The service is intended to support residential, hospitality, recreational and public facilities, while expanding the Dubai Central Laboratory’s monitoring capabilities. The municipality said the upgrade supports its broader efforts to develop smarter, more integrated public health services.
