Morocco registered 42,905 new businesses between January and the end of May 2026, according to figures from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

Legal entities accounted for 75% of new registrations, up from 71% during the same period last year. The single-shareholder limited liability company, known as SARL AU, remained the most common structure, representing 65.5% of newly created companies. Standard SARLs accounted for 33.6%.

Business creation remained concentrated in a handful of regions. Casablanca-Settat led with 39.3% of registrations, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kenitra at 14.3%, Marrakech-Safi at 12.8% and Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima at 10.4%. Together, the four regions represented 76.8% of new company registrations.

Commerce was the largest sector, accounting for 27.6% of registrations, followed by construction and real estate at 25.2%. Services represented 19.6%, transport 7.7% and industry 6.3%.

OMPIC also issued 56,618 commercial names, or negative certificates, during the period. The certificate is among the first administrative steps required to register a business, making the figure an early indicator of entrepreneurial activity.
