Dubai Municipality has officially launched the Dubai Digital Twin Platform, a comprehensive and continuously updated virtual model of the entire city. The launch marks the third phase of the project, designed to integrate vast amounts of city data into a single environment for simulation, planning, and decision-making.

A Data-Rich Virtual Emirate
The platform was introduced at an event attended by Dubai Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It consolidates an immense amount of information, creating a detailed digital mirror of Dubai’s physical environment.
This new phase includes 3D models of more than 195,000 buildings, alongside the digitization of over 280,000 infrastructure assets and 330,000 public facilities. The system is powered by more than 1,500 geospatial data layers and supports over 100 different two and three-dimensional applications covering everything from public services to master plans.
From Virtual Model to Real-World Decisions
Beyond being a static replica, the platform is built for practical application. During the launch event, officials demonstrated its use in urban planning simulations, infrastructure and asset management, and complex rainfall modeling.
These capabilities are intended to strengthen the city’s readiness for future scenarios and support its broader transformation into a smart and sustainable urban center. By running simulations within the digital twin, decision-makers can analyze outcomes before implementing them in the real world.
Driving the D33 Agenda with New Partnerships
The initiative directly supports the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of the city’s economy over the next decade. To expand the platform’s ecosystem, Dubai Municipality announced it has signed MoUs with the UAE-based Al-Futtaim Group and technology firm Huawei. The next phase of development will focus on research, future foresight, and integrating data across more vital sectors.
The Evolution of Dubai’s Digital Infrastructure
The Dubai Digital Twin Platform is the latest step in a multi-year effort to build out the city’s digital infrastructure. The Municipality has been layering AI, data analytics, and IoT connectivity across its operations incrementally.
This project builds on previous initiatives like Dubai Live, a real-time city operations platform that consolidated infrastructure, construction, and mobility data. It also complements Dubai Here, a web and mobile application that gives professionals access to 2D and 3D maps of every asset and building in the emirate, updated with live IoT data. The new platform brings all this together with advanced 3D modeling at a city-wide scale.
