Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has officially launched the second edition of its “Engineer It with Artificial Intelligence” competition. The program brings together 25 teams of developers, designers, and innovators from across the Sultanate to build practical solutions using emerging technologies. The initiative aims to directly empower national talent and cultivate a stronger local AI ecosystem.
Quick Facts
- 25 teams from across Oman are participating.
- The competition focuses on developing Agentic AI solutions.
- Leverages the National Open Data Portal for challenges.
Diving into Agentic AI
This year’s competition centers on Agentic AI, a growing trend focused on developing autonomous systems that can make independent decisions and execute tasks to meet specific goals. This moves beyond simple AI models to create more sophisticated, self-directed solutions. The launch ceremony, held under the patronage of Dr. Munthir Hilal Al Busaidi of the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-Up Unit, highlighted this advanced focus.
From Bootcamp to Boardroom
Running from July through September, the program is more than just a competition; it’s an intensive development track. Participants will go through a series of training bootcamps, workshops, and mentorship sessions. The curriculum is designed to provide hands-on training in designing AI-powered solutions, applying Agentic AI concepts to real-world problems, and effectively using data for model development. The program also includes critical training on product development, feasibility validation, and refining presentation and pitching skills.
Harnessing National Data for Local Solutions
A key feature of the competition is a dedicated track that utilizes Oman’s National Open Data Portal. This gives participating teams access to real-world datasets, challenging them to develop innovative solutions that address specific national issues. By connecting talent with public data, the initiative seeks to generate tangible value for both Omani society and its economy. The competition will conclude with final pitch sessions where teams present their projects to a panel of experts, who will evaluate the solutions and select the winning projects.
