ESCA École de Management has convened 63 participants from 14 countries in Casablanca for “Voices of Africa: The Continental Dialogue on Entrepreneurship Education,” a discussion on how entrepreneurship is taught and practiced across Morocco and Africa.

The gathering brought together academics, researchers, practitioners, institutional stakeholders and ecosystem professionals from countries including Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Pakistan. It was organised with the Dingman-Lamone Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland, Legacy International and the Africa Academy of Management, with support from the US Department of State.

Participants examined how entrepreneurship education can move beyond theory and translate knowledge into action. The discussions highlighted the importance of reflection, assessment, iteration and continuous improvement, as well as the role of autonomy, decision-making and the ability to operate amid uncertainty.

They also pointed to context-specific barriers, including access to resources, the cost of failure, the size of the informal economy and fragmented support systems.

The initiative, led by ESCA professor and researcher Zineb Ahmama, will now move into a 90-day testing phase for early-stage experiments. Its contributions are also expected to inform a white paper on entrepreneurship education in African contexts and the development of a regional community of practice.
