Google Labs Launches AI-Powered Playground for No-Code Game Creation

2 Min Read

Google Labs has launched Playground, an AI-powered platform that lets users create browser-based games using text prompts instead of traditional coding, design or illustration skills.

Creators can choose genres such as trivia or racing, start from scratch, and select 2D or 3D formats as well as single-player or multiplayer modes. They can then describe the game’s mechanics, gameplay and visual style. Users can also upload images that the platform’s AI transforms into game assets matching the project’s art direction.

Games can be played on mobile devices and computers. Creators can keep projects private, share them through a link or publish them to Playground’s Explore gallery. Published games can include features such as leaderboards, and creators can continue editing them after release.

Google said it plans to add Unity Spark integration in a future update, potentially expanding the platform’s 3D and game-development capabilities.

Playground is initially available to users aged 18 and older in the U.S., with expansion to other countries planned. Browsing and playing games is free, while creation uses a weekly token system. Google One AI subscribers receive higher usage limits.

The launch puts Google alongside other companies exploring AI-assisted game creation, including Roblox, which introduced a natural-language game-building feature in July.
