Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, CEO Sundar Pichai announced on X, making it the company’s 14th product to reach the milestone.

The figure applies specifically to the standalone Gemini app and excludes users accessing Google’s AI tools through other products. Google has integrated Gemini across Search, Workspace, Android and its own app, while AI Mode in Search has also surpassed 1 billion monthly active users globally.

The milestone puts Gemini on par with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached 1 billion monthly active users in June, according to the announcement.

Google said 63% of Gemini users interact with the assistant through voice, while the chatbot generates more than 150 million images daily. The app also has more than 100 million active users on iOS.

The company has continued adding models and features, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, which it says is built to improve coding and autonomous AI-agent tasks. The latest update follows Google’s Q2 2026 earnings call, when it reported more than 950 million monthly users and said daily active users had tripled over the past year.
